Excerpt of the Day: "The Inspired Life" by Susyn Reeve and Joan Breiner

In need of an inspiration pick-me-up?  Look no further!  Susyn Reeve and Joan Breiner’s The Inspired Life is filled with definitions, quotes, life stories, exercises, and meditations meant to open your mind to the creative potential in every moment of daily life.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Our Invitation to You”

There have been many names for and descriptions of the times we are living in. Some consider this to be a New Age, others the Age of Aquarius. To some it is the End Times with doomsday quickly approaching. Some believe the end of the Mayan calendar is simply an astronomical occurrence while others define it as the end of civilization as we know it; still others say while it marks an end, it is a gateway to a new beginning of peace and cooperation among all peoples.

Charles Dickens’s words from his classic novel continue to ring true today.

The worst of times: When watching and listening to news reports it becomes clear that there is currently much strife and cruelty in the world: war, genocide, ethnic cleansing, the stoning of women, which always amazes me since the ones hurling the stones were birthed through the bodies of women—their mothers. Economic conditions throughout the world are worse than they have been in decades. The divide between the rich and the poor widens daily as the middle class disappears. Children are starving throughout the world while the military budgets of nations get larger and larger. In the United States partisan politics is so focused on who is “right” and who is “wrong” that it seems that issues—even the role and purpose of government itself—get lost in the desire to win elections. Corporate greed and government scandals fill the airwaves and leaders are not trusted. News pundits weave stories of fear and terror as their nightly offering. Natural disasters seem to be rapidly increasing. Is the current recurrence of bedbugs a plague in our midst? Hate crimes based on gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation abound. Not only is there hatred among racial and ethnic groups throughout the world, families can’t even get along.

The best of times: Since the first photograph, the famous “Blue Marble,” in which Earth is in full view was taken on December 7, 1972, as the Apollo 17 crew left Earth’s orbit, there is no doubt that we are One—one humanity on one planet. Since that time, our inter-connectedness and inter-dependence has been made more and more evident through the Internet via Twitter, Facebook, and blogs, which offer instant access to social networks and worldwide communities (and playing a significant role in the call for democracy in the Middle East); the global economy and the resources and support that are readily offered, not only by governments, but also by people throughout the world within hours of reports of disasters. Advances in research have provided life-saving procedures and remedies. Educational opportunities abound. There is a global movement afoot honoring Mother Earth, our true home. Green industries are becoming mainstream. At the same time the evolution of consciousness continues with more and more people committing to live Gandhi’s words, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Individuals and groups are reaching across borders and boundaries in the name of peace. Women throughout the world are stepping forward committed to peace and our voices are growing and the fruits of these labors are being felt.

Katherine Woodward Thomas and Claire Zammit lead “Calling in the One” and “Feminine Power Mastery” tele-classes with thousands of participants representing more than fifty countries worldwide. In these programs, women and men in a community of support declare their commitment to live their inspired life visions, to be love made manifest in their relationships with themselves, their families, and their local and global communities.

Whatever you may believe, isn’t now the time to enrich your life by affirming and committing to your inspired life vision? At the very least, living your vision offers you the possibility of greater joy, fulfillment, and happiness. And, at best, as you put your stake in the ground for living a more peaceful and loving life, your consciousness generating your actions contributes to the collective consciousness of the Greater Field of Life, and love grows and peace expands for all.

How do I love thee, me?

How Do I Love Me? More Suggestions from Pros

posted by Daylle Deanna Schwartz | 12:01pm Monday January 23, 2012

Today is Day 23 of my 31 Days of Self-Love posts to celebrate Self-Love Month with suggestions for jumpstarting your own self-love.

I recently asked some experts how they show themselves love and included some in a post, to give you more ideas that you can use for yourself. Now I’ve got some more suggestions! I’m delighted to have some wonderful ones to share with you. By pampering your mind, body and spirit, you can build strong self-love, which is a magnet for loving things and people into your world. Here’s what they had to say:

Almost every morning I indulge in one fabulously sinful cappuccino creation involving whipped cream and—dare I confess?—a splash of Kahlua. Yes, this wicked indulgence often takes place prior to the sun rising; and yes, I understand if you don’t want me in your morning carpool now. But it’s a damn delicious way to start the day. Lisa McCourt, Unconditional love expert

In the shower, with nice smelling soap I pretend my hands are the hands of the best massage therapist in the whole universe for me. Then I lovingly soap up – especially paying attention to those places that I don’t like, or ignore (like my feet), or that are uncomfortable. I emerge feeling like a goddess. Katie Hawn, DC, Sleep Advocatewww.MagicNightsBook.com

I’m a morning person. I wake up early and get in exercise at least 5 days a week. I make sure that at least 2 of those days are a swimming workout (swimming is my all-time favourite activity). That’s my “me time.” I also have “splurged” on a couple of sprint triathlons in the last couple of years. They are expensive but give me a wonderful sense of accomplishment when I finish them. Finally, if I see a book that I would enjoy, I pick it up. Mariana Abeid-McDougall, BPHE, BA, BEd, CPT, CK, Owner, Personal Trainer, Achiever Fitness

One way I show myself love is by cooking healthy. It makes me happy and serene. When I was younger I was so frazzled that I never took the time to learn to cook and if I did cook something it definitely wasn’t healthy! So I’m loving myself and loving my body by taking care to use fresh, healthy ingredients in my home cooked food. Jayelle Hughes, author of Men Don’t Matter

Every Sunday evening, I take a hot epsom salt bath scented with essential oils then listen to the old radio shows (Dragnet, Gunsmoke, etc.) on the local NPR station until I drift off the sleep. Prior to doing this, I make a full pot of herbal tea and set aside a small plate of my favorite treats to enjoy after the bath. Brenda Coleman, Health & Wellness Coach

Once a week, usually on Sunday, I take a long bubble bath. Yes, bubbles. While there, I watch reality TV on my laptop (just set it on a stool a few feet away from the tub). Sometimes I paint my toe nails too. I just give myself some time to be alone and relaxed. When I can (usually once every few months), I go get a massage instead of taking my bubble bath. It’s like me-time and uber-me-time! Taking time to do nothing “productive” is actually one of the most productive things you can do for yourself! How can you be expected to do good productive work if you’re running on empty emotionally and physically? You can’t! So get yourself some emotional gas by taking some me-time. Laura C George, Business Coach for Creatives

Tuesday nights are my date nights with myself. I have my favorite food delivered. Light some aroma therapy candles and give myself a clay mask facial and read. Kenetia, Beauty Activist

I show myself love by honoring and taking care of myself. As a mom that can be very challenging, because the kids needs come first. Once a month, I take a spa day @ home. Having been in the industry for year so I know the tricks of the trade, my session includes a mud mask, mani/pedi; ends with a hot shower and Shea butter rub down. After all that I can’t help but feel recharged and ready to take on the world or at least another day. Thank you for your consideration. Sherrie Tennessee, MBA, Director of Education, Sherrie Tennessee Consulting

I make my living from my art, but for over a decade I rarely made time to create art just for me, to feed my own soul. Then earlier this year I started a practice of “playing in the Creative Sandbox” every day, making art, even for just 15 minutes. It doesn’t sound like much, but that one small act of love for myself has literally transformed my life! Those of us with a hunger to create absolutely need to feed that hunger — it’s the most loving thing we can do for ourselves. Melissa Dinwiddie – Artist, Inspirationalist, Creative Coach

I have 4 ways to show my self love each month.?1. I buy a new designer perfume not the fake kind I used to buy.?2. I get a facial.?3. I give something to charity knowing it is more blessed to give than to receive.?4. I buy a new jewelry item each month.?These are things that make me feel good and loved by me. Dana Rankin

One morning as I was brushing my teeth I noticed these words echoing in my mind, ‘you are so ugly, no one will ever really love you.’ As I continued brushing my teeth I thought, this is abuse and I am the abuser. So now when I see my reflection in the mirror I say aloud (allowed), “I Love You.” And since there are mirrors in my house, in my car visor and store windows reflect my image as well – I have many opportunities throughout the day to nourish self love. Susyn Reeve, Self Esteem Expert and author of The Inspired Life: Unleashing Your Mind’s Capacity for Joy and Choose Peace and Happiness

More an endorsement of life than love, I try to apply this exhortation on a daily basis: “If you do nothing else today, do something good for your body.” So I head to the gym first thing every morning. Dr. Marlene Caroselli, , keynoter, and corporate trainer and author of over 60 books, including Hiring and Firing, and Principled Persuasion, named a Director’s Choice by Doubleday Book Club

One of the ways I show myself love is by making myself a gourmet dinner. I buy fresh ingredients and an excellent bottle of wine. When I get home I put on some soft music and cook a delicious gourmet meal. Cooking is a great way for me to be present in the moment. It makes me slow down and focus on just one task, clearing my head of clutter. Then I enjoy my creation. Angela Betancour, PR Practitioner and writer @angiebetancourt

To show myself love, I study the Bible and apply its teachings to my life. Since the Bible was written by our Heavenly Father Yahweh God Almighty to guide us in living according to His will, and provide ageless principles, I can be assured that I’m living a life that’s worthwhile, purposeful, and fulfilling. Above all, reading the Bible and applying its lessons is how I can develop and maintain a sacred relationship with Yahweh and His Son Jesus Christ. Such a relationship is priceless, the gift of a lifetime, and it’s all mine!” Dr. Shirley Cheng, Gospel Proclaimer, Bible Teacher, and Founder of Ultra-Ability.com Ministry

Try some of these tips to say “I love Me!” The better you feel from showing yourself love, the stronger your self-love will become!

What inspires you?

I'm Inspired By: Janet Conner
susynreeve | September 7, 2011 at 8:42 am | Tags: empowerment, inspired life, inspiring message, Janet Conner, self love, Writing Down Your Soul | Categories: Books, Inspiration, Inspired Life, Interviews, Personal Development, Self Esteem, Spirituality | URL: http://wp.me/p1HjhW-4N

My guess is that you've had the experience of talking with someone and the moment the conversation begins you feel a deep simpatico with them. It is as though you've known them all your life. Their words inspire you and their kindness, wisdom and presence magnetize you to them. Janet Conner is one of these people for me. Brenda Knight (associate publisher at VIVA Editions and mid-wife of my new book, The Inspired Life: Unleashing Your Mind's Capacity for Joy) suggested that I contact Janet. So out of the blue one day many months ago, I gave her a call. And since that time I am unconditionally a big fan of Janet's. Her generosity of spirit and the wisdom that fills the pages of her first book, Writing Down Your Soul and the companion journal, My Soul Pages, are treasures in my life. I'm thrilled to share this wonderful woman with you.

Susyn: What does living an inspired life mean to you?

Janet: The word "inspired" carries for me a sweet spiritual sense of Spirit entering my being. When I say the word, I hear "in spirit." And that is the way I live. I see my life as having a purpose and I live my purpose every day. So I feel inspired all the time. Everything I write, every decision I make, everything I do is "inspired" that is, directed and guided. Of course, this kind of like makes perfect sense for me. After all I wrote Writing Down You Soul which is about activating that wise loving voice that lives in every one of us.

Susyn: In your daily life, how do you nourish your inspired life?

Janet: I begin feeding myself even before I wake. In Writing Down Your Soul, I share how to write to activate the theta brain wave state. It is the miraculous state in which we have access to break through thinking and real creativity. In fact, according to the brain people, it is the only brain wave state in which we have access to all these good things. Well, each one of us has access to theta first thing in the morning in that in-between state of not asleep, not quite awake. So, I lie in bed with my eyes closed and allow thoughts, ideas, images, and dreams to come to me. This isn’t weird. Turns out artists and scientists regularly do this to take advantage of the rich creative time in theta. I get all my best ideas lying in bed!

Then, I have a spiritual practice that I follow every day before I start working. I say my Soul Vows (the values I hold most dear) aloud and repeat my Writing Blessing, a miraculous prayer I wrote when I wanted my contract. And guess what happened? My publisher overnight mailed my contract dated May 16, 2007, the day I stood in front of my creative altar and spoke my blessing for the very first time. I also do deep soul writing every day and work with my Intention Mandala. (These are all spiritual tools I teach in my global tele-courses.)

Throughout the day, I keep the channels open. I talk to my angels and guides all the time. I ask for guidance and I know I receive it. Often I reread something I wrote and wonder, “Who wrote THAT!” Any time you have that feeling, it’s a really good sign that your actions were totally inspired.

Susyn: What is your biggest challenge in living an inspired life and how do you approach this challenge?

Janet: It’s taken me a few years to really get into the rhythm of living an inspired life around the clock. At first, I had to remind myself, but now it’s a habit, a way of working, a way of seeing the world. Whenever I feel out of sync, I pick up a pen and have a chat with my Beloved Voice or stand in front of my Intention Mandala and renew my commitments, or pick up an anthology of mystical poetry and read the words of the masters. I do something to pull myself back to my center. When I’m frightened, I ask for help. Actually DEMAND might be more accurate. And help always comes. Always. And when it does, that alone inspires me to continue.

Susyn: Who/What has influenced you in living your inspired life?

Janet: My first spiritual teacher, Charlotte Starfire, introduced me in the early ‘90s to Native American spirituality and the Divine Feminine. On the opening night of the first class she quoted Theilard de Chardin, “We are not human beings trying to have a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” That sentence knocked me off my feet and started my life down a whole new path. Today, I carefully choose literature that will help me stay in that awareness that I am a spiritual being having a human experience. At the moment, I’m devouring John O’Donohue’s Anam Cara and Beauty. My heart sings on every page. His Celtic heart is deeply resonating with mine. Looking at the world through Celtic eyes that saw Spirit in everything is a lovely and deeply inspiring way to live. I’m so crazy about these books, I’m going to plan a soul-venture to Ireland and Scotland in 2013. (In 2012, we’re going to see the Monarch butterflies in Mexico and learn from the spirit of the land on The Blacktail Ranch in Montana.)

Susyn: What are you working on now?

Janet: My next book will be The Lotus and The Lily on how to create a life following the simple instructions of Buddha (Lotus) and Jesus (Lily.) Turns out these great masters said the same thing—and it wasn’t get really clear about what you want and ask for it. We’re way off in our understanding of how to create the life we want. The end product of the book and the tele-course is to create an Intention Mandala, utilizing Carl Jung’s wisdom on the mandala as an engine of change. It’s a very powerful tool and I can’t wait to finish this book and get it out into the world. In the meantime, I teach the course.

Susyn: What words of wisdom do you have for someone who desires to live their inspired life vision?

Janet: The first thing I’d say is know that you came here for a reason. As the great mystical poet David Whyte reminds us in a poem called “What to remember when waking,” “You are not a troubled guest on this earth, you are not an accident amidst other accidents, you were invited from another and greater night than the one from which you have just emerged.” (House of Belonging) Your soul brought with it a divine purpose. So take the time to go inside and discover what that is. Then, do something every day to bring it to life. When you serve your purpose, you can fall onto the pillow at night knowing it was a good day no matter what happened. There is a joy that comes with living your purpose that is indescribable. And as you live it, you make the most amazing discovery: every moment is inspired.

An Inspiring Message - Don't Waste a Minute of Life
susynreeve | July 18, 2011 at 6:56 pm | Tags: inspire me today, inspiring message, live your dreams, richard branson | Categories: Inspired Life | URL: http://wp.me/p1HjhW-15
A critical thing is not to waste a minute of life. Throw yourself whole-heartedly into it. Don't wast a minute and try to make a positive difference in as many other people's lives as possible. - Sir Richard Branson

Gail Lynne Goodwin the creator of Inspire Me Today recently met with Sir Richard Branson founder of the Virgin Group. Gail writes, "I had the honor of spending a few hours with Sir Richard Branson at his home on Necker Island, in the British Virgin Islands. As I walked into his home, I found him lying in a hammock in an alcove of the great room, open to the warm tropical breezes, overlooking the multi-colored turquoise Caribbean Sea. Bliss.

"Barefoot and dressed in swim shorts and a tee shirt, he looked more like a Jimmy Buffett fan rather than the founder of the Virgin Group, best known as the only person in the world to have created eight separate billion-dollar companies from scratch, each in a different sector.

Since my return, the number one question I've been asked is, "What did you learn from Richard Branson?"

As I listen to their conversation I realized that Sir Richard Branson is not only living an inspired life - he also articulated the elements that have nourished and continue to nourish his inspired life. He is a person who not only dreams big - he brings big dreams to life. Listen to Gail's interview with Sir Richard Branson

-- World of Writing --

Most of our readers are already aware that we offer occasional mini-World-of-Writing segments on this blog. Today we have a special guest line up for you - I think you'll enjoy what she has to say about the world of writing :)

I’d like to start with a shout out to Kat Sanborn, Editorial Associate with Cleis Press and Viva Editions (VivaEditions.com) for sending a query our way for today’s featured guest.

Author Susyn Reeve joins us today – she is a self-esteem expert, life coach and Inter-Faith Minister. Her published books include: Choose Peace & Happiness, With Forgiveness – Are You Ready, The Gift of the Acorn, and the upcoming Inspired Life. She is here to talk about here experiences in the genre of non-fiction book writing. Find today’s featured guest at: www.withforgiveness.com or at: www.self-esteem-experts.com

Q: Who inspired you to pursue a career in writing?

I have been an avid reader all my life, I can see in my mind's eye my treasured copy of Little Women that I received as a birthday gift as a child. I have always loved how reading expanded my experience of the world - opening doors to relationships and cultures that were outside of my daily experience. In addition, I have kept a journal since I received a diary as a birthday gift when I was seven. So rather than one particular person inspiring me - it has been a combination of books and the writing of my experiences that has most influenced me to pursue writing.

Q: How does writing help you make a difference in the world?

Writing has expanded my reach. Particularly given the Internet, it is possible to reach people throughout the world. I have been blessed to be invited into people's lives through my work as a coach and Inter-Faith Minister. Through working with tens of thousands of people throughout my career I have learned what makes a difference between people who have healthy vibrant self-esteem and those who feel victimized by the circumstances of their lives. My writing allows me to share what I have learned and offer hope and guidance to people, throughout the world, who desire to feast on the precious gift of life.

Q: Can you tell us what editors typically look for in a query letter or project proposal?

I have never written a query letter and am quite familiar with project proposals. It is crucial to have a clearly articulated description of your proposed project, including a synopsis, table of contents, sample chapters and through your bio a clear reason why you are the qualified to write your book - all of this relates to the content. I have found that it is sometimes even more important to demonstrate that there is a market for your project and that you have access to that market. Being able to identify your competition, and how your book is unique combined with a clear marketing plan is mandatory information for editors.

Q: What do you do when you are not writing?

I have a website that I add content to (www.Self-Esteem-Experts.com) and a Transformational Coaching practice. I work with clients in corporate settings to develop and embody Leadership skills; and privately with individuals and groups, partnering and guiding people to deepen and expand their capacity to give and receive love through cultivating a loving relationship with themselves. Many of my clients are therapists, coaches and clergy. I am a teacher of teachers.

Q: What gave you the idea (inspiration) for this book?

My new book, The Inspired Life: Unleashing Your Mind's Capacity for Joy (due out in September 2011 - Viva Editions) is inspired by my personal experience and what I have learned from my clients - happiness, living an inspired, life is an inside job. I am personally deeply committed to - being the change I wish to see in the world - contributing to the world by nourishing peace and love in my life. I want my grandchildren and their children's children to live in a world were cooperation, community, kindness, compassion and love are consciously cultivated. As a teen I wrote in my journal, What would the world be like if everyone loved themselves? This question has informed my life and has been a source or inspiration for me to offer a map for living an inspired life in my new book.

Q: What is the important role that writers play in today’s world?

Writers are artists who use words as their medium. We paint word pictures that have the power to open readers to new worlds and ideas. I find in my non-fiction writing that while I present information, it is through the stories that I share, from my personal experience or the experience of my clients, that allows readers to see that they are not alone - as well as offer a new perspective in meaning they give to their experiences. Words are real things, they are the expression of our thoughts, and in the beginning there was the Word... and it through our thoughts expressed as words that life is created.

Change your mind, literally:

I am very excited that Viva Editions is publishing Susyn Reeve and Joan Breiner's fall 2011 book, The Inspired LIfe. Their mission is to inspire people to embrace their full capacity for joy. Sign up for their newsletter, which offers helpful practices and "joy jumpstarters for a little daily boost!

Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter and for your support of Self Esteem Experts since we launched in 2009. We are committed to providing you with the most up-to-date information, inspiration and proven exercises to boost your self esteem, improve your confidence and live your best life.
We encourage you to email us with your questions and topic suggestions so we can offer you the information and exercises that are of most value to you.
This month we encourage you to explore the idea of acceptance. Do you accept and love yourself or are there parts of you that you are ashamed of and therefore judge yourself harshly because of them. Did you know that this kind of judgment is a potent form of self-abuse that you inflict upon yourself?
Since our relationship with ourselves creates the blueprint for all the relationships in our life, accepting and loving ourselves is necessary to live a peaceful, joyous and loving life.
In celebration of your ever evolving self esteem,
Susyn Reeve & Joan Breiner
Acceptance
There comes a time when you have to stand up and shout:
This is me damn it! I look the way I look, think the way I think, feel the way I feel, love the way I love. I am a whole complex package. Take me... leave me. Accept me - or walk away! Do not try to make me feel like less of a person, just because I don't fit your idea of who I should be and don't try to change me to fit your mold. If I need to change, I alone will make that decision.
When you are strong enough to love yourself 100%, good and bad - you will be amazed at the opportunities that life presents to you.

Have you ever watched the television program GLEE? I am a fan and in addition to loving the music the messages of acceptance of who we are in our differences and similarities are powerful. Last week's episode, Born This Way, was about Acceptance. I have watched it twice, already, and have been telling my coaching clients that it is a must for anyone committed to cultivating healthy self esteem. So, since a picture is worth at least 1,000 words, rather than tell you about the episode, here are links where you can watch it on your computer.
  • Hulu.com - if you are not already registered on Hulu - you will have to sign up and then search GLEE - season 2 episode 18
  • Fox.com - full episodes of Glee
After you watch it, let us know what you think (Support@SelfEsteemExperts.com)
